President's Review
As we get closer to the start of our season I thought it pertinent to review what your Executive, Non Executive and Non Committee personnel have been doing in preparation for 2023.
The volume of time and work necessary to prepare a Football Club for competition is indeed immense.
There are compliance protocols associated with our affiliation with the Adelaide Football League which allow the League the transparency to fully understand what is happening at club land and how they then schedule the season ahead.
Yearly tasks associated with:
- Populating the afore mentioned structure
- Uniform and merchandise design and ordering
- Sponsorship renewals and looking for new opportunities
- Equipment renewal and replacement
- Player and coach retention and recruiting
- Oval and ground works
- Fundraising Calendar
- Meetings with Council, State and Federal politicians, SANFL, AFL and Sturt DCC
- Junior and Senior player subscriptions
Just to name a few main focus areas.
Equally demanding are the issues that emerge from one year to the next that must be looked into and decisions made. Unplanned occurrences that require us to be flexible, pragmatic and courageous with at all times being mindful about the Community that support our existence.
The challenges facing Community based sport have been ever present however the complexity and number appear to be on the increase.
Make no mistake the script written about the importance of sport in our society remains unchallenged.
The social pressures on that society are changing to the extent they may prevent that script from being read and possibly undervalued.
We are currently undertaking the annual review of our Strategic Plan which we will circulate when completed. One aspect of that plan, in regards to playing football, is to ensure we have a continuous career pathway covering age groups U7’s to Senior Women and Men.
Those choices form one aspect of ones association with the Mitcham FC however in considering them our club culture should always be uppermost in those decisions.
We are always cognisant that our culture maintains the values we have articulated namely an environment that is safe, respectful, inclusive, supportive, recognises achievement and sets standards of behaviour commensurate with community values.
Thank you to everyone who has applied their skills, time and energy into preparing the club. I take great confidence that “the club “, has provided you with an environment that allows this generous spirit to to survive and thrive.
Hope to see you at PMO and away grounds throughout the season ahead. Go Hawks
Regards,
Stuart Palmer
